Gene Banning at the CNAC Reunion - 1998

January 12, 2006
(from Gene's widow - Jackie)

Dear Tom,

I am thrilled that you added Gene's book to your website. How very kind of you. It's an impressive website, and you've done a super job compiling it. All I could add was that he was passionate about flying and air safety, and the love of his fellow pilots. And he was a wonderful husband.

I'm faring ok. Like everyone says, it takes time to adjust, after a lifetime together - that's the hardest task.

All the best to you and family.
Thank you again for all you've done for me.

Kindest regards
Jackie Banning

And then this arrives as an early christmas message, December 24, 2022.

To whom it may concern.

My name is Roger Deprez.

I worked for Pan Am in Sydney Australia from April 1969 to March 1986 when Pan Am was taken over by United Airlines.

I had the pleasure to invite Gene at our place in a Sydney suburb for dinner where he enjoyed our Australian Belgian food.

My wife Monique and our four children still remember Gene telling us his war stories, flying time with flying boats and so many others.

Can you imagine those kids aged from 8 to 14 listening to these stories.
Something they have not forgotten since.

Gene the next day was flying his last flight for Pan Am out of Sydney.

Our memories of Gene as a Pan Am Captain but also as a true gentleman has never been forgotten.

P.S. Jacky Banning, was she not originally from Fiji where they met I think?

Yes, you are correct and she remembers the Deprez family, ask her...
Jackie (minniebanning@gmail.com) was working at a hotel in Fiji when she and Gene met and the rest is history.
