ASHIO (POW CAMP 8-D) JAPAN
Ashio was a coppermine opened in Japan in the 1600's. Chinese Prisoners were the first POW's to arrive at the camp in 1940. I believe Korean were then used in 1942. The first allied POW's started arriving around 1944 (as far as I know). Click here for a link that will show some pictures of the mine. Here is just one name that performed slave labor at the mine: Luther A. Oakes Thanks! |
