Bob Crabb (19??-1995) Dorothy Crab (19??-2013) Janice Crabb Philip Crabb September 26,2021 Dear Mr. Moore ~ I have just discovered the website for Santo Tomas Internment Camp ~ it was a wonderful discovery for me since I was born there in 1942 ~ that is, I was born in Manila & my mother (Dorothy Crabb) & I were still outside the camp ~ my father (Bob Crabb), however had previously been taken in ~ Dorothy & I were to join him 9 months later when I contracted polio ~ as I read through the names of internees, I didn't see our name ~ Bob & Dorothy were newlyweds when Japan invaded the Philippines ~ so there were 3 of us interned at the beginning & 4 of us by the time we were liberated ~ my brother, Philip was born 3 months before liberation. Dorothy lived to be 94 & died in 2013 ~ Bob died at the age of 80 in 1995 ~ before she died, Dorothy wrote a 400+, single spaced autobiography, which I have ~ it's very long & needs editing, but includes many pictures of the camp, mostly taken after liberation, but also meal tickets with many holes punched & several issues of a little handwritten periodical with hand drawn cartoons ~ I have been searching for a proper repository for her most interesting history, but thus far have found no takers, other than the Minnesota Historical Society, which expressed interest, but never followed up, never having seen it ~ I am quite elderly myself & have a dreadful fear her book will get lost if I don't find a taker before I die. I would really appreciate it if you could include our family in the list of internees ~ I can't tell you how thrilled I was to have discovered your website ~ I hope to hear from you in the near future. Thank you for researching & creating this wonderful source. Janice Crabb or would like to be added to my POW/Internee e-mail distribution list, please let the me know. Thanks! |
