ANDREW SABO (1919 - 1965)
"Andy"
Andrew Sabo was born November 30, 1919 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Unknown, Unknown and Andrew Sabo Somewhere in Michigan before the War started (Photo Courtesy of Paula Sabo Evans) My father, Andrew Sabo, was captured at Corregidor May 6, 1942. He was to Bilibid Prison on May 24 and from there went to Cabanatuan on May 28 where he stayed until November 5. He was then transferred to Tanagawa Prison Camp by November 26, 1942 where he stayed until April 13, 1944. He was at various hospitals and was finally released by American rescue party August 29, 1945. Andrew Sabo and his daughter, Paula (Photo Courtesy of Paula Sabo Evans) Andrew Sabo, his daughters Paula and Pat (Photo Courtesy of Paula Sabo Evans) Andy, Paula, Virginia and Pat (baby is Unknown) (Photo Courtesy of Paula Sabo Evans) His records, including a personal diary he kept, are at the WWII museum in Georgia. I have seen these items and have a photo copy of some but would like additional information about this time of my father's life, as well as hearing from other survivors. The first page of my dad's diary states: ----------------------------------- Andrew Sabo Btry "F" 59th C.A. Corregidor Philippine Islands A.S.N. 16013465 ----------------------------------- According to the last page of his diary (his personal history) he arrived in Omi 3/16/1944 and left 8/15/1944. His writing gets pretty poor after that, probably due to illness, but he arrived in Tokyo sometime in August, 1944. The diary contains 135 names and addresses from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, India, Canada, Hong Kong, and Scotland. My father passed away on June 27, 1965 at the age of 45. He lived only 19 years after his release from these hell holes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
