I was a colleague and friend of John Trotter at Illinois State University from 1961-1972. As you might know, John was from Jolliet, Illinois. He served in the Air Force and flew the "Hump" during WWII. He told me that following the war he flew in China for a period of time. Upon returning home he flew for TWA. He earned the Ph.D in Geography at the University of Chicago. He was already a member of the faculty at Illinois State University when I was hired in the fall of 1961. I do not know when he retired but I am sure he was still on the faculty and was chairman of the department-- after I left the university-- through the 1970s and into the 1980s. He married the widow of his predecessor. He became the step-father of three children. Sometime in the early 1980s, he died while travelling with his wife in Europe. She has since died. I do not know whether he was interred in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois or was returned to Jolliet. I think he might have had a sister there but I am not certain of it.
