I received the following e-mail on March 15, 2016: Dear Tom I hope you are still the Historian for CNAC. Your request for information on past employees caught my eye and I would like to pass on a story: As a passenger of CNAC in 1948 on a flight from Hong Kong to Canton, I met a young Stewardess, Wu Ming Ting who became my wife in 1950. The chance of such a simple meeting whilst going to study in Canton has ended in us being happily married for 65 years, with a family of 4 daughters and 7 grandchildren. With both of us practising the same faith, we thank God for having met on that flight. Perhaps such a chance meeting could be shared by other stewardesses and Staff. I am attaching a photo of my wife in her uniform in 1948 and hope you will find it of historical interest for a relevant publication in the future. From a very satisfied passenger of the then CNAC. I look forward to a favourable reply Yours sincerely Tony Kwok I then wrote back to Tony: Hello Tony, Thank you for e-mailing me. Is your wife picture or name on the following link? Flight Attendants I know that names can change greatly between Chinese and English. Thanks again for writing… Tom And on March 17, 2016... Dear Tom Many, many thanks for your prompt reply and photos. Jane Wu is in fact my wife in the photo with Mr Roosevelt on her graduation and we were delighted to see it. It has brought back many memorable events for Jane and best of all she had the pleasure of meeting me on that flight from Hong Kong to Canton. Fortunately at the hotel where I was staying, a group of CNAC staff arrived to register and I noticed Jane amongst them. I introduced myself to her and invited her to join me for diner that evening. Friends here in the UK find it hard to believe that I suggested marriage to Jane on that evening. No doubt she might have thought that I was the type to be weary of after such a suggestion! The rest is history. Hoping you find this reply of interest and should you require any further information I will be happy to help. If you have any connections with China Airlines they may consider this story of interest. I am attaching a recent photo of myself with Jane and our 4 daughters taken on our 65th wedding anniversary (2 are living in the US). Yours sincerely Tony Kwok Click here for a bigger version of some very happy faces... Unfortunately Tony passed away in September 2019.
