FLYING FROM DINJAN TO KUNMING

From Fletcher Hank's, "WHEN AND HOW THE CNAC CRASHES HAPPENED ON THE HUMP AND ITS ENVIRONS DURING WWII" (hand-dated 5/4/02)

Einar "Micky" Mickelson, 02/20/44, C-47 #75. Both crewmembers were killed. Copilot W.L. Wang (Chinese).
Flying from Dinjan to Kunming, south of direct course, staying under the overcast to avoid icing conditions. He was leading Bob Prescott by 200 feet through the passes, when he disappeared when they flew through a small cloud. Wreckage was found 7 months later. Bob said, "The air in the small cloud was very turbulent and apparently, Micky hooked his left wing on the north side of the pass and was spun around to crash into the east side of the mountain but there was ample room between him the side of the pass." There is a possibility that he was hit by a bullet, from the Japanese gun emplacement on the ridge, just before he entered the cloud.

The following excerpt comes from "The Aluminum Trail" by Chick Marrs Quinn.
See booksetc01.htm for details about this and other related books.

Two sources say the co-pilot was W.L Wang and Chick Marrs Quinn gives the name as L.L. Wang. Let me know if you know more about this. Thanks.
