CRASHED SOMEWHERE BETWEEN YUNNANYI AND SUIFU

From Fletcher Hank's, "WHEN AND HOW THE CNAC CRASHES HAPPENED ON THE HUMP AND ITS ENVIRONS DURING WWII" (hand-dated 5/4/02)

Richard Green, 06/15/45, C-47 #81.
All 3 killed. Due to bad weather he couldn't get to his destination, Suifu, so he over-nighted at Yunnanyi. Don Bussart was there for the same reason. They slept in Don's plane. They left in the morning for Suifu. Dick Green disappeared. The plane was never found. Chinese crew.

Tom,

As for Richard Green... I had a running account with him from playing gin rummy while over-nighting in Kunming, and that was often. In fact I was ahead when he was lost. I was told he hit the first ridge departing Dinjan. I kept scanning that area very time I went out in good weather and did spot a C-46 that had hit a high shear rock formation and fell in the gorge below, but did not catch any identification on it. I tried to spot it several times later but it was so well concealed you had to directly above it to see it. I never saw it again. It may have been air force.

I'm still not sure if he was in a 46 or 47.

Arnold
